Child Protection Policy
Leatherhead Drama Festival recognizes its duty of care under the Children and Young Persons Act 1963, the Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014, Children Act 1989 and the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 (in Scotland Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003) Working Together to Safeguard Children 2013.
To comply with legislation Leatherhead Drama Festival is registered with Surrey County Council Child Employment Team to provide that our festival meets their criteria to protect any person aged16 years and under who is participating in the festival.
Leatherhead Drama Festival will require all participating groups to adhere to our Child Protection Policy and failing to do so could result in a child or group being excluded from the festival.
Each participating group who has child performers aged 16 years and under on the day of the commencement of the festival must complete the form provided by Surrey CC giving details of the number of male and female performers in their production and their named chaperones. This information must be submitted 30 days before the start of the festival.
Each participating group will be required to provide the necessary chaperones to care for any child under 16 years of age.
Chaperones must be registered with their local authority. By law the chaperone is acting in loco parentis and should exercise the care which a good parent might be reasonably expected to give to a child. The maximum number of children in the registered chaperone’s care shall not exceed 12.
Academic teachers can be termed as chaperones and the maximum number of children in their care should not exceed 12.
Any person with DBS Clearance can assist a chaperone but is not cleared to have sole responsibly for 12 children.
Chaperones will be made aware of LDF Child Protection Policy and Procedures.
Chaperones must bring photo ID with them on the day of their group’s performance.
The lead chaperone or director of the participating group must ensure they have details of all their performers’ names and emergency contact telephone numbers.
